Unfortunately, it is basically an auction. Too hard for a dealer not to pass up when there is low supply and overwhelming interest.

I read somewhere that Chevy is auctioning production spots for the corvette. If thats true then it takes bamboozling to a whole level higher than Honda dealers thats for sure. Doesn’t help us much but to provide context. Thats really fd up - jumping the shark kind if fd up.

Every dealer I've spoken with in Dallas/Ft. Worth has said $5k over won't get it done. More like $10k over. FFS! I'd do $5k over. $10k over can get stuffed!
we in different times, i'd say a majority of dealerships will be $10k over minimum

That is crazy actually. Hold tight though, the overall market fundamentals are terrible and getting worse.

for sure, this is not a sustainable thing. but for the distant future, especially on limited edition and wanted cars, mark-up's will not be light. a local dealer i spoke to has 9 people on their list at $10k over with $2500 down to secure

i would never go $10k over. i think that's crazy. i got my fk8 for msrp + ttt in 2017 when everybody had markups when they first dropped them. most i would pay is like $2k over and that's if i really had to. luckily i don't. for $10k i could put a blower on my k20 eg8 and have 350whp and have a ton of fun.

dealers acting like cars are made out of gold right now. They're even taking of markups on Altimas.

Its really weird because used FK8s are going for $10k over so dealers are hiding behind the used market which is in an extreme cycle. I also think dealers are looking to clean up overall bottom line when new sales volume lags due to lack of supply. A $10k mark up makes up for a lot of lost volume and keeps people on the payroll.

you can ask for whatever but who is actually paying 5-10k over for a used R? All the dealers around me that has GR86 marked up 5-10k hasn't moved in months. I guess its a cycle then... since they don't sell they shrink the production.

It's a hard pill to swallow, but I get it. $10k over MSRP for a Type R though, especially when it's an optional purchase for me, makes it so I'll call one of the MSRP-only Chevy dealerships and wait a year for a C8.
