Is this feature safe? Don't know if I should trust some of the Facebook comments who say it's bad for the car.

If its very mild yes. If you go with an aggressive version there can be some issues, especially with cat.

If you use the Integra Type S settings then your catalyst life will be no worse than what Honda has allowed for the Integra Type S. There are catalyst temperature and other component protections in the implementation.

Pops and bangs, Burbles, etc. regardless what you call it this is a common feature today. Acura implemented the pops & bangs in the new Integra Type S (DE5) (along with many other manufactures). The extra exhaust sound comes from the overrun from retard ignition and extra fuel injection which burns through the exhaust system.

Now, the DE5 Integra Type S equivalent pops and bangs can easily be added to your FL5 Civic Type R using the latest Hondata FlashPro Manager Software and selecting the quick "Mod" in your calibration (This is a optional feature).

The Hondata F.Manager software also allows you to take matters in to your own hands by tuning the "pops & bangs" tables yourself in your FL5/DE5. However, remember factory protection is used to keep the catalyst temperature within factory limits. So some caution must be used if extending the duration and/or retarding the ignition further. If you do not have any tuning experience, you can contact one of our authorized dealers for a custom tune (and ask them if they can implement this feature) or you can simply choose one of the settings in the quick "mod" section that we provide in our software.

Quick Mod Selection
Labeled "Pops and Bangs"
- Integra Type S
- Stage 1 pops and bangs
- Stage 2 pops and bangs

Parameters

Enabled - enables/disables pops and bangs

Comfort / Sport / R Mode - enables/disables for each mode. The Integra Type S only has pops and bangs in S Mode from the factory.

Duration - the duration of the ignition cut / extra fuel in milliseconds.

Screenshot 2024-01-05 164055.png

Tables

Base Ignition - the burn limit minimum timing by air charge and rpm.
Example: If the base ignition is 5 degrees and the retard is -20 degrees then the timing will be -15 degrees.

Retard comfort / sport / r mode - addition ignition retard applied.

Fuel cutoff delay - the delay before the fuel is cut on overrun, by gear and rpm.
A longer delay will give longer pops and bangs but will surge in lower gears and use slightly more fuel.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. Enjoy and Stay Tuned.
Is the ecu jailbreak always reauired? And is there a chance if the future a softer software can happen without shipping out your ECU etc.

I meant without the hassle of jail breaking and warranty issues etc.

Does Phaerable not require an ECU jailbreak?

Any tune will require a jailbreak. There may be a way to jailbreak your ECU remotely in the future, but for now, the physical ECU is required for the jailbreak. You’ll either need to take your car to someone to have the ECU jailbroken, or ship it in.

Once the jailbreak is complete, Hondata users can download updates. Like this burble capability. No need to mail in the ECU again, just load the tune onto the vehicle with the tuner device.

I recorded a quick and dirty video with the mod installed. Just using the ITS setting and 93 octane tune.

About halfway through the video I fixed the annoying rattle/buzz (garage door opener 🤣).

With the integra pop/burble tune now the civic would NEED 93 fuel?

I previously owned an Elantra N and the pops are something I miss most about that car.

In the EN, the pops would only happen in the most aggressive drive mode. It was prefect. You could basically turn them on and off with the push of a button. Loved it.

From what I read in this thread, that is possible here, right? You can program it on/ off for different drive modes?

Has anyone tried this on their FL5 yet that has the extra factory resonator? I wonder how much different it sounds compared to the Type S.
