Almost parted ways with this car. It's a wild story, and worth sharing.

I sell real estate in the Nashville area, and with these continued high rates, homes are trading much slower than usual right now. Moreover, my daughter is about to start college.

I had a hairbrained idea to get a cheaper car and put about $14,000 in my pocket.
The car of choice was new manual GR86 Premium. I had the particulars all worked out at a local Toyota dealership, but had a super tiny loan on my FL5 that they would need to pay off to get the title released.

The amount due to me was substantially more than the payoff, and as I was about to leave with the GR86, was told that it could take up to a month to get my money, but "it almost never takes that long". They welcomed me to check up with my salesperson in 2 weeks. I left with the GR86.

I'm a Type A personality, so I did just that. After nearly a month of broken timetables and no check produced for me on their end, I discovered that they hadn’t even paid off the FL5 yet.

I went back in person to rectify the situation, because calls and texts weren't cutting it. I requested my check again, and my sales guy asked me for another two weeks. This was unacceptable. I went to the sales manager, and told him that I was very unhappy, and wished that I had never traded. At that point, he and the GM offered me the option of unwinding the deal completely and taking my Type R back. Whoa.

Yep, it was still on their lot, and they had only added 10 miles to it over that time. I asked to go inspect the CTR, and it looked pretty much how I left it, albeit a bit dirty, but with my ceramic coat still underneath.

I took this option, and they unwound the deal at no cost to me. I am SO THANKFUL they were willing to work with me after a really bad experience and this option rectified it all in my head. I am super happy to have my FL5 back, and like it substantially more than a new GR86 and $14,000 in my pocket.

The GR isn’t a bad car, but it’s a poor replacement for a CTR.

This was about 3 weeks ago. I have since taken a part time operations job with a tech company to help with financial matters while real estate is on the slow end.

Thanks for reading! FL5 for lyfe (maybe? lol)

Brother, it's SO HOT here right now. He's an elderly kitty, so I have told his sweet orange self that he needs to be inside 95% of the time during the summer. He's up in my bed sawing snore logs as I type this.

Sold my old wheels after I thought I was trading the car. So I got new ones.

I also got a new bathroom scale that I trust a little better than the old one. At least it matches what the Dr. says I weigh annually.

265/40/18x9.5 +37. Stock height.

Unattractive Potenza Sport sidewalls with cankles and seasoned Facebook Type R group trolls notwithstanding, this is not a bad little solution for someone who doesn’t want to lower his car.

Their combined 64mm more width exaggerates the lateral grip and stability this car already has in spades.

Impact harshness is almost completely resolved here, and placement confidence is increased.

Do I wish I spent a little more money and bought a sexier 200TW tire? Yes. But I paid a fraction of retail on these, and I’m OK with how it all turned out.

No spacers or anything like that? Just bolt on and done? I like the way it looks myself.

Pretty much the stance my si had. It would grip around corners so nice after putting them on her.

Anyway, looks good, love the blue!

I just had my tint done on mine finally. I went with 15% xpel ceramic plus side windows and back window. I put in weathertech floor mats. I'll be doing the front windshield next at 50% I'm thinking because my buddy did his front windshield at 30% and said it was to dark. Same thing, xpel ceramic plus. Then I'll move on to chipping the ecu, tune, rims, winter tires. Then I'll start getting aftermarket exhaust etc., retune.

It's a slow process with a big family.

FD3D rock guards installed. These are great!

I left the inserts out, didn’t feel like I needed them. Install was a cakewalk with their handy included tiny screwdriver, didn’t need to lift the car, turn the wheels, nothing. Install and go!

Willow taking a nap after all of his hard work supervising the job. :)
