Changing the trans fluid on my FL5 soon.

Been reading a ton of different recommendations for different types of trans fluids. I’m looking to go with Amsoil but can someone confirm which Amsoil product? I’ve seen a bunch say Amsoil MTF but then other say that it’s not the correct weight so you should go with Amsoil gear oil 75w-90? Which one is it 😂

Would like to stick with the weight of the Honda MTF but can’t really find which weight that is 100%. From what I’ve read, most seem to say that Honda MTF is 75w-80 but not exactly sure.

ive read that the Amsoil MTF is 5w-30 which doesn’t really make sense 🤣. Didn’t think oils could be this confusing so looking for someone to clear some things up.

also read that a lot like the AC delco fluid but don’t really have any experience with that. Would you guys recommend that over Amsoil? For what it’s worth, I’m not worried about the small price difference between these products. Just want what’s best and what will make the trans operate the smoothest.

appreciate it!

Somewhere around there I believe. I’m not too impressed with the shift feel of this car though, especially cold. No grinds or pop outs but it feels like something catches going into gear sometimes. Especially 3rd and 4th for me. Mostly low speed driving. Driving spiritedly and when everything is nice and hot the transmission feels like butter. But a lot of said a fluid change to AC Delco or Amsoil helps the shift feel so I figured I would give it a shot.

tried this in my s2000 and it helped smoothen up the shifts a bit especially when cold.

@PointByPatrol and other memberes have used AC Delco fluid without any complaints.
I’ve seen that. I wanted to go with Amsoil but I’m not opposed to AC Delco since a lot seem to like it.

How soon should you do it then lol? These things I need to know 😅
With the factory fluid you will be able to feel it when it's shot. I typically notice that the car doesn't like to engage 5th on the straights. The AC Delco wears out too. I typically change the fluid twice per year.

I swapped out the factory fluid for Redline MT-90 at 20k miles on my car. the difference was immediately noticable. 1st-2nd felt a little less notchy in a good way. it also seemed to slide through the gears easier.

I did a drain & fill @ 22,500 miles and used Amsoil Synchromesh 5w-30 MTF without issue.

Any hi-grade tranny oil is fine, let's not turn this into a oil analysis YouTube myth busting thread 😂 😂

Please post your blackstone results here

Appreciate all the replies. Does anyone know the weight of the Honda MTF and the recommendation from Honda for what weight oil should go in the transmission?

I see a lot going with different Brand 75w-90 oils which is cool I’m just wondering if that’s the actual weight of Honda MTG as well

Gear oil is on a different viscosity scale than motor oil, so 75W-90 gear oil is close to 10W-30 motor oil.

I've used both Amsoil MTL and Delco Syncro Mesh in other Honda's and a Scion FR-S for many years without issues. Both were much better than the factory fluid in freezing weather and the same (or better) in the summer.
