Is anyone backpedaling from Type R to an Si?

Hey my brother has an Elantra N (276hp/289 torque) and wants to trade for the Kia Forte GT (201hp/195 torque) he test drove. As ridiculous as that sounds, ppl do trade down.

+1 I went from a 2004 330i ZHP to a 2017 Sport hatch. Wasn’t even for financial reasons, since I paid cash, the Civic just fit my new job better.

On top of shitty engines and transmission recalls, the back seat in the Elantra is too high and cannot fit a 6 ft tall person without your head being in the roof. I was looking at an N line and that was one of the reasons I said f that.

This was asked before and I remember seeing someone say yes. Apparently someone did it with the FK8 CTR.

Not to thread jack - but what about moving from a current SI to a FK8 CTR? I think that would be much closer yet I feel that the last gen CTR would offer better performance, and better resale value once the market goes back to normal - plus the prices of all used cars are starting to go down.

If I were looking at FL5 - I would definitely consider a FK8 CTR over a SI just simply bc I feel with Throttle House’s review - the last gen CTR is still a very capable car vs the new CTR. Just my .02 though.

Hello - I currently drive a Model Y Performance along with a Fit as our third car/beater (wife has Model Y SR). That said, I've been hankering for a fun, MT weekend car, so I was planning on trading the Fit in for a CTR. However, with the crazy ADM nonsense and wait times, I've been wondering if it would be worth it just pocketing the extra 20k and getting an Si instead. Anyone in a similar boat and/or can comment on the Si? I know it is almost apples to oranges but the Si still seems like it would be a fun ride.

let me tell you, i push the my 22 si to 140mph+ multiple times a week. This car is MORE than capable and is half the price of a type r.
Its practical, its fast, its fun.
i get 30mpg and drive like the devil is behind me! I WILL NEVER GET RID OF THIS CAR!

Only problem with that is the FK8s average price for FK8s is $47k, low milage is higher. Its not really a deal to get the FK8 over the FL5.

There's actually a few in my area with less than 10k miles in the 44-48k range. The big question comes down to condition though. I'll probably check a few out this weekend.

*I also came across a private seller with an LE that only hs 500 miles on it. They want 58k though. Is that out of bounds, or about the right price given the mileage?

It's anecdotal but the dealer who I'm buying my CTR from had a LE with 200 miles and they were selling for 60k.

I think it's fair to take into consideration use case scenarios, sedan vs hatch. It already looks like the L15 in the Si doesnt take well to heavy modification.

Also, at the used price of an FK8 you may have to deal with known FK8 issues eg; overheating, 2nd gear grinds, (there are various fixes).

Same goes for the FL5, given that its the first gen known issues are yet to be compiled so thats an unknown variable outside of creaks and rattles, we also know some 11th gen hatches leak, no reports from Type R owners tho.

I've been keeping an eye on FK8 prices in my area in Canada (Montreal area) and I've noticed prices going down. Prices for a 2019 FK8 in the 20k-50k KM area went from $46k-52k CAD to now being around $42k-50k CAD. That being said if you're looking at the 2020-2021 models theres not many of them and they're all sitting around $53-60k.... Which is absurd considering MSRP was $46,200 CAD in 2021.

End of the day it just makes the FL5 (at msrp) 50k CAD seem like a really good price in comparison to a used FK8.

Back to the original topic though, I'm not back pedaling to a Civic Si, but I am considering the GR86. Even with the premium GR86 loaded with every option I'd want (TRD exhaust, TRD shifter, and cargo mat), its $12,000 CAD cheaper than the FL5.

I think the FL5 looks great, interior is STUNNING, performance is leagues ahead of the GR86 and way more practical of a car too. It really sounds like a no brainer, but for $12,000 I could easily keep a beater car, or rent a van/truck when I need to move things, or invest in modding my GR86 to keep it fresh.

For now I don't even know when I'll get the call from my dealer that the FL5 is arriving so I'll keep waiting. Hopefully I'll have made up my mind by the time it happens ?

Just came across a local seller with a 2017 that only has 2300 miles on it. Clean carfax and they are asking 40 even for it. It has been in his garage for the majority of its time.

Nothing other than you're paying 7-8k over msrp for a 5 year old last-gen model with no warranty. And be careful, sometimes under used cars are worse then moderately used ones. Overall seems worse than paying markup on a new FL5 and I could, personally, never stomach making such decision.
