@Tickle and @AspecR -- maybe you can help us here... tell us if a sales rep would get higher commission depending on the profit for the dealership on a specific car? I already noted when i go into dealerships that the reps are definitely in competition with one-another. what if someone were to call that tampa dealershp and get a different sales person... would that new sales person be incentivized to make your sale so they get the sale?

thanks! nice! except for the shifter, it's basically what i got for 1k less! altho, i now have a good dealer nearby and have been able to enjoy my car for a few months,. so i'm fine with it... but this is certainly equivalent. i'd say it's a really decent price.

I think there's PLENTY of 10k ADMs out there. that should be a definite NO.
There are depending on region, I think the Northeast is a little dry on them until you get to NY/NJ.

That said, last person that I referred to a different dealer was able to negotiate their ADM from 9900 to 3k, so just putting it out there is all.

ahhh... you are right about the negotiations... i thought you were saying they were firm on the 10k. for sure... it's always worth the try to negotiate ;)

Addendum... i know what you are talking about... i'm in chicagoland -- which atm is high and dry, so yah... the prices here aren't dropping... they actually started much lower here than other major metro areas, but sadly have caught up.

I'm not sure I understand what your question is....

That said... Different dealers have different pay plans or how they compensate a salesperson.

The more common method among massive chains or fixed-price dealers is to compensate by volume. Of course, there may be another incentive such as a bonus to sell a specific vehicle.

Often times smaller dealers will compensate a salesperson based on gross profit. Nothing is 100% can be different everywhere... That said dealers that pay based on gross will often cap the amount of commissionable gross on vehicles with ADM. So for example they may only pay on up to x,xxx of gross profit.

I worry I'm causing more confusion...

Sales people, if they are worth anything should WANT to sell you the car. They should also look for how to sell you the car.

The OEM red leather shift knob can be bought for $162 including shipping. The cost to install the knob from my dealer is $12. I just saw on another post on this thread the dealer cost is $112 so can’t quite figure out how some dealer is charging $1000 as an option ?
That’s stealing if we are talking about the same shift knob.
thanks

no, not confusing... that helps. :)
yes, they should want to sell the car, but if a difference of 1-2k can mean a diff of 2-300 in their pocket, it may be an incentive for them to hold firm if they think it's a seller's market for a car like this. let's put it this way... the dealership SHOULD want to sell the car, but so many of them are holding firm,

however, based on what you explained, we wouldn't know for sure how it's structured in any given dealership, so we can't count on that. Also, it doesn't sound like the competition between reps would help us much no matter what. therefore, i'm most confident still about trying to engage the manager if it's important -- like i've always done in the past.

No, you didn't understand... The shifter wasn't priced out individually at 1k. my deal was 7k with multiple accessories. I am in a huge metro area where typical ADMs are currently going for 10-25k, and at the time i reserved mine in summer of 2022, almost ALL cars were around 5k ADM, so i was happy with the 7k for the FL5.

i was just mentioning that this Tampa car is 1k lower in price than what i paid -- minus the shifter -- so even without the $162 shifter, it's an even better deal. I mean... 6k ADM right now WITHOUT any accessories is currently a really good deal in florida and california.... and actually most of the country. Many people would go with 5k ADM and no accessories, so 6k with accessories is quite acceptable -- it helps to have SOMETHING extra when we are paying that much more over msrp.

Also... i should prob move to minnesota... you are lucky! I don't know any mechanic in this area that would do any work for only 12 dollars... except maybe replace the windshield wipers? :p

A dealership should always turn over a manager before you leave so that you can speak to one. I know that doesn't always happen and I know the process is different at different stores. I do believe it is important to meet the people involved with your car deal be it the customer or dealer employee.

Does this still seem excessive to you guys? They originally wanted 64k otd but was able to come down to 59k. Of course this is mainly because they lowered the profit percentage on the accessories. Ideally going to try and see if theyre willing to come down a little bit more as my only other option is waiting for an autonation allocation for 5k adm which puts me at 55/56k OTD but no accessories.

At least in this instance I would walk away with something? Even though it does suck paying a 300-400% mark up on said accessories.

If you can swap the shift knob for the forged wheels, that would be a good deal. Doesn't hurt to try. Otherwise - like another poster said, this is basically a $7,500 ADM, which is not horrible.
