Is that the normal price for a big brake kit nowadays? Hopefully the HRC kit that they’ve been teasing on the Type S gets released soon. But I was hoping it would be under $2k lol. I think I’m a bit out of touch with aftermarket prices lol.
Paragon was under $3k, now it's a bit over, but probably the cheapest one for our platform.

On my Golf R I had the 6 piston Stoptechs that were $2500 a few years ago and now it's over $5k, things certainly got inflated

I have three brake related questions since we are on the topic.

1. What is the advantage of a big brake kit on the CTR? Stopping power? Heat management?

2. If I bought brake fluid like a year ago and it’s still completely sealed, is it good to go?

3. I have been using G Four 335 the entire time I’ve been tracking but I’ve never heard of anyone else really using it. As I’m starting to get faster, do I need even better?

1- All of them, definitely stopping power, way better heat management, weight savings (minimal but should be there), much better system to swap pads

2- Should be fine

3- Had to search that that was, its from project mu so should be good stuff

Had a few sets, the flow formed apex are excellent. yeah forged are technically lighter and stronger but only thing most are gaining is talking about having forged wheels lol
🤣 Exactly. I hate worrying about them covered in brake dust. It's dumb it's a dang wheel. So problem solved

1. Most of the benefit is thermal capacity, but should decrease stopping distances a little as well as you'll also have increased pad and rotor size
2. yes
3. It's not readily available at most places, so SRF is probably the default that most track folks end up with, but from what I read, G Four 335 is very good, but probably want something with a higher dry boiling point on this platform.

Here is a great article on

do we know what the difference is btw all the kits? Some are just the size of rotors 355 vs 372 but what about the other differences?

The paragons still a lot cheaper and are probably also very good, AP is the golden standard though.

I have been reading about melting boots on the oem brembos, definitely a thing, titanium shims are definitely a must. Also feel like it will depend on the pads, some pad material will transmit a lot more heat to the pistons than others.

Currently using EBC SR11 which are sintered and apparently will put a lot more heat on the caliper, I guess time will tell

I think pad thickness. 18mm or 25 or 27mm pad thickness? Not sure of other differences. Even at BF prices I won't be doing this for a while 🤣

I will need to actually melt a set of boots and then I will upgrade but would likely just do paragon, this is too rich for me. But ngl, I have wanted a set when I had the M2 and still do now.

I think it's like the forged wheels analogy 🤣 I need to watch some videos on inspecting the boots of the brembos. I would hate to miss something and ruin a weekend.

The calipers on the Type R has been around since 2004 on various applications. They do sell a high temp boot, but haven't researched enough on which one fits.

I would go with the bigger rotor, but very dependent on what wheel will fit.

Ruined dust boots won't stop a weekend. There is a seal on the piston that stops fluid from coming out
