It only takes 1 bad experience for you to not be comfortable taking car in.

I am not worried about this though, I know people think this is a huge deal but it seems fairly straight forward. I will be honest, I am more worried that they will scratch a wheel or bang the car into something than actually performing the repair. In 3 months they will have done hundreds of these and not every tech is an idiot. You also would think they would not put the new guy on this.

I know they put the new guy on replacing my tire though because the wheel was scratched to shit, but I do appreciate them calling me saying they will fix it. Of course when I came in the fix was terrible so they had to do it again. Still does not look the way it was when new but I will live. But this is why we don't trust dealer techs even though I have had great service at dealers over the years. Takes 1 bad experience to put you off

Techs are like every other service industry getting squeezed so someone else can make a few more dollars. Sad. Flat rate work is so messed up. An entire book documenting how long repairs "should" take and OEMs that completely ignore it for warranty work.

I'll take my car to the local dealer, and if they mess it up I trust they will make it right. No issues in the past been going there for a while.

One thing that drives me insane however - grease in the interior. I don't want to figure out how to get oil out of these cloth seats. It's not a huge deal with leather, still annoying.

I also see some saying that they essentially want/expect concierge service and extreme personal care and attention to their car, but I'd be willing to bet that nobody here wants to open their pocket to satisfy what something like that would cost.
This. In a past life I was a consultant. Everyone wants the expert and the best possible service/solution until it's time to pay up.

The average new car transaction price is now $48k. The Type R is just average pricing, so why would we expect exceptional personally curated white glove service? There are manufacturers that will provide this, but I bet no one reading this is shopping those brands - myself included 😂

Factory alignment. I have all sorts of suspension and chassis modifications. I'm nowhere near Factory specs. Not to mention it's a task just to get my car up on a lift.
With that said I definitely don't want just a guy who punches the clock to touch my car.
So I'm going to wait for a good bit till techs are use to doing this job. Also I want the exact same alignment that I go to the shop with.

So based on what everyone’s saying, the play would be to wait? If what I hear is true that the fix is dropping subframe, I got rigid collars on and do not trust that dealers would give a crap about the orientation or specific collars going into the specific parts of the frame….

I got mine done the other day. Get it done as early on as possible and keep a record. If i have any problems they’ll be no reason or recourse from my end that I delayed at all.

Go as long as possible without any attempt to contact the dealer or fix the issue and future claims after the repair can be given more scrutiny.

We bought a honda after all. A few years back, a civic sport was 23k. We didn’t buy a Bentley. I’m on the side of speak with the manager at the dealership, tip, and double check your front wheel torq specs to see if they rushed. If they did rush. Id bet that they would have air wrenched the lugs to any tightness to get done. I doubt full proof method but better than nothing.

My car drives straight and everything seems as intended after the fix

As a tech at honda with an fl5 i gotta say im a little discouraged by how little faith most of you have in us. Ive been doing the eps recalls on civics for a while and its very straightforward. Take pride in my work as do all my fellow techs. We havent had a screw up on one yet. The fl5 is nuts and bolts like every other honda that we work on all day every day. The fact that so many are scared to have the rack serviced is insane!! Either you dont know much about cars or you have a horrible service department
So much of the experience is more than just the technician: a porter that bangs up your car, a front person not telling you when your car is ready (or telling you it's ready when it's not), a sales prick asking you to sell your car, etc. At least for me, the technician is the person I trust the most in the service department. It's everyone else that I don't want to risk dealing with. Many more hands can break something other than just the guy holding the tools.

I totally get not wanting the porter to touch the car. When i used to own different brand cars with recalls i would park it myself and bring the keys straight to the advisor lol. Just a tip. Also having a dashcam/ waiting with the car will steer away any bs that could happen on that end. This is more of an answer to people saying techs dont care when warranty times are concerned. Let me tell you its the complete opposite! If its warranty time and i fuck it up i will have to fix it again completely on my time. Most guys dont like repeat jobs that wont pay a dime!

What about the cars with ridged collars and race alignments. How is that handled at your shop ?

I bought a 2024 brand new this past weekend after the dealer did this fix so that the car could be sold. I then took the car, 2 days later, to swap tires to all seasons because I already have summers (18s from my fk8). They asked if they could check the alignment - I said sure.. the toe was off on every single corner. Im glad they checked it!

The dealer sold you a car after doing the recall work. 2 days later you went back for a tire change and he had to redo the alignment.
Did I read that right?
If so, not very reassuring.

Important question: had you noticed any problems in your driving before this alignment?

Discount tire checked the alignment and the toe was off on 3 out of 4 corners.

No.. I’ve barely driven the car so far. And it’s currently getting tinted and ceramic coated. Once I get it back I can post my alignment before and after sheet - it’s currently in my glovebox… I should get it back tomorrow.

Discount Tire make the alignment. Are you shure they don't only want your money ?

Don't worry, I don't have much faith in dealers and I'm only asking you to believe me.

What are you on about?

Are you saying that discount tire committed fraud by messing up my alignment and then trying to say that it was off? That’s pretty wild considering I watched them do the whole thing through the window. Also, it’s not the first time that cars don’t have the right toe Settings from the factory to begin. with.
