I’ve had my FL5 on the 93 octane Hondata basemap with the ITS pops and bangs enabled for a couple months, but once I installed the PRL high volume intake, I don’t get pops and bangs anymore.

does anyone know why this could be? do I have to adjust anything in the tune to accommodate the new intake?

Yes, the problem is why don’t you have a custom tune?!

You already spent big money on mods, the last $250 for a custom tune is well worth it. Plus it’ll fix this problem.

🤣 yeah you’ve got a point. I’m just having a tough time finding a dyno shop near me to get it tuned properly.

Noooo you don’t need a dyno shop. You record pulls in your car on a straight road by hitting the button on the side of the hondata module and email it to your tuner of choice…

I went with Jester.

It might take one or two revisions for most tuners since they’ve done so many tunes with similar mods.

oooh gotcha -- that's significantly easier. thanks for the tip!

I'll get that data logged and sent to a tuner.

now just to find a quiet straight road...

So this happened to me once also. It was after my cars battery died for some reason. After I charged the battery again, the pops and bangs went away. I don’t know if the ecu reset to the factory tune after (I don’t even know if that’s possible to be honest). Car pulled just as hard as I remember it pulling on the tune, but the pops were gone.

i went ahead and reflashed the tune. Pops and bangs came back. No clue what the problem was but seemed to be associated with the battery dying.

so if your battery died recently or you unplugged the battery to install the HVI, try reflashing the tune and see if that works

You could fix the problem yourself in hondata.

But a tuner can too and make the car run so much smoother with so much more power also for a simple couple of uploads and third gear pulls.

telling you, oem to hondata was a big step, hondata to a custom tune is just as big

Yes, can fix at no cost but man that base tune versus a custom tune is worlds apart and you get way more power…100% worth the 300. Just reach out to jester.
While that is true, OP asked specifically about pops and bangs and that can easily be investigated with 10 minutes at no cost.

Y’all should go work in sales if you don’t already with the upselling, and I say this as someone who supports Jester.

You don’t know the OPs goals/needs aside from getting their pops and bangs back, so blindly suggesting a custom tune is disingenuous.

It’s like having a guy come to a repair shop asking for only one thing to be fixed but you find a way to make his car markedly better and not suggesting it…kind of a disservice in my book. I had the base tune for months and didn’t realize how much smoother a custom tune is.

An honest repair shop will list out all available options suitable for the customers needs.

OP I suggest you exercise some troubleshooting as @UCF120 suggested earlier rather than throwing money at it at first.

If the pops and bangs go away it means your car is storing a CEL, a custom tune isn't necessarily going to fix the issue that caused the code. Verify that the intake was installed correctly and then check for codes. Reset the code(s) drive the car and check if the pops and bangs return. If they don't return then the codes are still active.

A custom tune is unnecessary to resolve the issue you're having, it is recommended to get a custom tune though.

reflashing the tune got the pops and bangs back. thanks for that suggestion!

I have no clue why it lost them in the first place though— I didn’t disconnect the battery during the install.
