Hey everyone!

I’ve been using the DE5 version of this exhaust since the end of October, so Humza, @Unity Performance, asked me to offer some insight!

As previously mentioned, there is a removable resonator, and the exhaust comes with a piece of pipe to replace it. The exhaust maintains the use of the OEM valve (If it wasn’t valved, that would’ve been a dealbreaker for me). Lastly, tips are removable/ exchangeable, to suit your preference.

I’ve kept the resonator on, switch a lot between comfort and sport+, and I’ve kept the carbon tips on.

It’s important for me to note that I had a LOUD 10th gen Si (catless + no mufflers, followed by catless + 27WON rear end), and then an 11th gen Si (catless + stock exhaust), so I’m no stranger to loud, obnoxious exhausts, which is what I DIDNT want for my ITS.

For starters, I think the exhaust sound is great. In sport/sport+ you do get some drone around 2500rpm, but you can easily switch back to comfort if you’re just cruising around town.

The tone and volume of the really compliment the car, and for the ITS crowd, the pops sometimes sound like gunshots which I’ve been having a lot of fun with, especially in tunnels ;) (the FL5 crowd can add pops with Hondata now too).

On the other side, comfort is still very comfortable. I switch to it for phone calls and it’s MUCH quieter. It’s also perfect for when I have my parents in the car as they hate any exhaust sound.

One thing to note, the valve logic (when the exhaust valve opens and closes) is different between the DE5 and FL5, so that would change the exhaust sound as well.

I’ve added a link from my YouTube channel comparing the stock exhaust to the MBRP cat-back!

Looking forward to seeing more of these exhausts on the road!!

I’m that other guy that bought this exhaust. Ordered it on 2/8 and got it 2/15. Installed it yesterday on jack stands in my garage. Took about three hours total. I chose the MBRP over other exhausts out there because of the deep tone as well as the retained factory valve. Another plus was the optional resonator (which I did install, mainly to keep the neighbors happy at 6am).

So far I love the sound. It does get pretty loud right around 2500rpms in R+. I used to drive a V8 Mustang with a MAC Pro Chamber and Flowmasters, so the volume doesn’t bother me. IMHO this how the Type R should have sounded from the factory.

My next steps are the TSP downpipe, Hasport RMM, and PRL HVI (already preordered.)

My MBRP exhaust is on, and I agree with @BBlue1 -- this is exactly how the car is supposed to sound.

I'm running mine with the resonator bypass for now, and I'd call the tone aggressive yet satisfying. I figure if it ends up feeling too loud, I'll install the resonator, but I'd be too lazy to crawl under the car to remove the resonator if I wanted it louder. With the basic Hondata 93 Octane Tune, I'm getting burbles like my DE5, so I may not need to activate their pops and bangs setting... though I probably won't be able to help myself from giving it a try.

I tackled the install with my dad (mechanical and moral support) at a place in the Columbus area that charges $45/hr for lift use. It took approximately 5 hours with us taking our time, mostly so I could learn along the way. Here are a few takeaways:
  • You'll want an exhaust bushing removal tool (~$12 on Amazon) and plenty of lithium spray or WD40.
  • Removing the 6 bolts at the flanges required a Dewalt Max XR impact wrench, they're on TIGHT.
  • Aligning the valve actuator is tricky, take your time.
  • There's what appears to be a CD envelope with the instructions--it's a gasket to connect the front pipe to the down pipe, don't overlook it.
Everything went as planned until the very end--one of the exhaust tip clamps was seemingly cross-threaded from the start, so I'll need to order a replacement.

Crummy day for spirited driving here today, but pleased with this purchase so far!

Woo!! I was anticipating your thoughts, hope you get some great seat time this weekend :)

Thank you for sharing it step by step, please do share some pics as well when you get a chance. @BBlue1 if you could attach some pics too please.

@RUNN1N if you can email me pics of the clamp, I'll get that taken care of you today as well

@BBlue1 and @RUNN1N how are the exhausts now that you guys have about 7-10 days to get used to the setup :)

Did you guys swap between the two mid-sections yet or still same ones?

Appreciate you all chiming in so far! CF Tip variants all sold at the moment, Burnt Tips available and you can always get other tip options too separately

I've got no regrets--I'm absolutely loving the new sound. I'm still running the bypass and have no plans to swap in the resonator, but my wife hasn't ridden in the car since I installed the exhaust. She may have other ideas.

I'll need to venture under the car sooner or later (probably when I swap out my winter tires) as I've got one spot where the splash shield is contacting the exhaust which occasionally causes an ever-so-slight buzz at idle when warm. I knew they were touching when I took the car down from the lift, but it was almost school pickup time and I wanted to hear the car. That's what you get for hiring a bum to do your install (that's me, I did the install, I'm the bum).

Yours too, eh? Seems they're just cheap hose clamps. I contacted MBRP and they sent me a couple of actual exhaust clamps as replacements.

I can certainly make the recommendation to MBRP to include different clamps if folks are having trouble with the ones provided. Let me know guys

@creaturemachine did you order yours direct, I don't recall an order from you

Direct. Hopefully they see a trend but it can't hurt to hear from you I guess.

Their support was good.
