How often are you supposed to run Full 91 Octane? Is it even required? When you dont run E85, is the tune back to a Stage 1 or 2? Thanks.

When you don’t want to blend e85. Depending on your tune(r) you should have a 91 tune to change too when not running E blend.

Why do you need a 91 tune, isn't the definition of Flex Fuel the ability to run any mix of E any time and the sensor tells the computer what the mix is and references the appropriate boost and spark lead tables to compensate?

I would run 91/93 most of the time, especially in the winter unless you want the extra power of more ethanol. Ethanol attracts moisture and if your winters are humid/wet then you will want to change the oil a lot more often when running E, especially if you aren't daily driving the car. I set up my first flex fuel car in 2011. I am a big proponent of E85, love it. Just know it's not advisable to run E85 full time.

I think what he was referring to was that if I wanted to run 91 for a couple of thanks, I could go back to my Stage 2 91 Tune. But are correct that the CANFLEX doesn’t need the tube to be changed, my question was if you just keep the tune without changing does the sensor/computer/software revert back to stock configuration or does it go back to a Stage 1/2.

It goes back to whatever is set up in the flex calibration, it's the same tune, if it's set up properly there is no reason to reflash for ethanol mixture changes.

@Hondata I see a change was made in May to Improve Canflex Operation. Does this change affect only the Hondata off the shelf or should we be talking to our tuner to make changes based off your updated?

I know every time I update it tells me my current tune file is out of date and needs to be updated and then loaded back into the FL5...thanks

Luckily I received a response from @phearable. Update Firmware and reload tune to the FL5. There is no new tune file required. It would be nice however to receive more information from Hondata on what was improved on the CANFLEX software.

4.7.2 (3 Jun 2026) The e/b can update was made specifically to address an issue with a "ghost" check engine light that would occur on integra type-s vehicles when using the Hondata app to stream live data from the Hondata flashpro.

That hilarious because after I reloaded the tune the ghost light came on twice 🤣, it's gone now....

The issue was found in the DE5 only.
You must use an updated canflex kit in conjuction to the updated firmware/software.
Contact hondata support for an RMA.

The ghost mil was not an issue on FL5 vehicles.
If you do not have a FL5 and have an issue, contact Hondata support.

Anyone running just the base tune that comes with Hondata with the TypeS pops/bang tune? I had asked them for that but I can't hear any at all. I remember them saying it only happens in R mode around 4000+rpms...I think i got the tune around 1000 miles. I've got 1100 miles now and still nothing.

If you are running a stock downpipe and exhaust it is almost impossible to hear the burbles from inside. Pops and bangs would be noticeable.
