Aftermarket Dipstick for K20C1?

I emailed Wunderland yesterday to ask and waiting reply.

As @TypeRD mentions if the markings don't match its not accurate. They can say the Honda stick is not correct for some reason or there is a leaway but the H and L are very far apart from OEM.

Also yes I could just keep it in the middle but I don't like that, its a $70 dip stick I bought to solve something and now appears to introduce another issue. I understand maybe they make the stick for different cars but this is a type R specific stick, it should have the same markings as the OEM.

As it stands if there is not a good explanation I will be returning it

This is the response i had from Austin. And my dipstick compared to the OE dipstick. It should have been matched to fsctory.

slightly higher? thats substantially higher if you line up the bottom mark. Or is the bottom mark also lower?

Honestly this is a huge miss. If you want a mark for the customers that like to run higher oil then you can add a dot or another marking in there.

The low level is too low as well. I match the dipsticks up exactly in the photo. High mark was higher than OEM, low mark was lower than OEM. Im still disappointed buying this.

I wouldnt recommend buying it due to its accuracy.

I am as well.

The options will be return or just mark the High Low with a dot but I just think its crazy that this was not matched to stock, not even close

Maybe the better question is : How much more oil does that H line equate to? If it’s 1/2 qt or less, then I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I think we’re all less worried about the low mark. The only time my oil gets anywhere near that low is when it’s being drained. Lol!

Regarding putting a reference dot or line on it, that’s a good idea. It would be pretty easy to do with box cutter or something like that. Just be sure to measure down the length of the stick starting from the base of the handle (where it seats to the dip tube) to make sure the mark is in the proper spot.

Can do what I’ve done in the past with the OEM dipsticks. I took 400 grit sand paper to the orange tip until there was no more gloss. Took me a few minutes to do. Should help the oil stick better and be more visible since you’re not fighting to look at the oil against the orange gloss.

Note for Type R/S sticks: The high and low markings on our Type R and S stick are spread a bit further to give a wider reading range. The high mark on our stick is set to where the factory windage tray so you are able to run more oil in your Type R/S while keeping it under the windage tray (allows for oil to last longer and maintain pressure better during hard driving) and be able to read that extra oil. We recommend always keeping the oil at least above the halfway point, we have the low mark set a bit lower so you can tell where it is if it's low.​

Note for 1.5T sticks: If you are using our 10th gen 1.5T oil pan baffle and would like to take advantage of the greater oil capacity it allows, the top of the H on our stick is your new full mark for the extra capacity fill. This only applies to this baffle and no others.​

I can understand why this may have been confusing if you did not know their reasoning, but I would definitely consider this a beneficial feature and not a product issue.

I have done exactly the same after my first oil change. same reasoning.

I even cut small notches on the sides of the orange plastic at the high mark thinking that I will be able to see oil in the notch.

yet it still was not easy to read...

what the fuck does this even mean? we put an arbritrary low mark that does not match what honda is so you know its low.

So the high mark there is a BS reason and for the low mark there is not even a reason, its just yeah its low so you know its low, we made it lower so you know its even lower.

This is just poor product engineering, what is the deal here? A stick that works for multiple cars so you don't have to manufacture more than one?

Like just give us the real reason and stop making us look like we are clueless fools.

I was aggravated enough with the last customer that came in for an oil change and the factory orange dipstick was pissing me off for the last time to the point where I was thinking I need to stock this at the shop. Then I come and read the weird markings and their reasoning behind it. This actually doesnt make anything easier...

Yeah, I understand the reasoning from an ease of manufacturing perspective. That said, I agree with you. Someone had the great idea to make a one-size-fits-all dipstick. Sounds awesome in theory. In doing so, they ended up with a compromised product that doesn’t work perfectly for anyone. It’s a damn shame, especially given how much these cost!

Here’s another thing : They’re making custom handles with the R/S logo in batches. It can’t be that much more difficult to do it the right way and make matching dipsticks with accurate markings in batches too. I really don’t understand that. They only make 5 dipsticks! It’s not like they have a massive catalog of these things to manage.

I think the handles are likely made by them but the sticks aren't so the sticks are bought in a big batch then have the handles milled and anodized and then assemble both, I could be wrong though.

I should have did the same when I got mine. Purchased three-four months ago, so well past any option like that.

Again, I dont recommend buying this dipstick unless they resolve the markings.
