Honda cannot tell that the ECU has been jailbroken and previously reflashed. They can tell if it currently has a non factory flash in it. There is no reflash counter or record of CVNs like other vehicles.

We have always advocated for being upfront with the Honda dealer about what you have done to your vehicle, including reflashing the ECU. Many Honda dealers support the aftermarket, including selling Hondata products.
This changes everything!

I can attest to that, my dealer has zero issues servicing, supporting and doing warranty work on cars with Hondata components.

Our service dept does installation of Hondata components all the time.

So what is the bump on the 91 octane flash?

Our results on 93 may provide some insight.

Factory tune baseline: 303/333
Hondata 93 octane base map: 320/368
Custom 93 octane: 359/383
Custom high octane fuel blend (estimated 97-98 octane): 389/383

With our custom tuning we were very comfortable with where we left it. There is likely a little bit more on the table for those that are willing to push things further. We also expect that as Hondata continues to refine their software (adding new tables, etc) we can further safely get more power out of the tunes. All in all, great results so far.

11th Gen Honda Civic Hondata FL5 FlashPro released d6271565-5a7c-4e0a-a70a-a092fbfd3d34

Mods include:
  • PRL High Volume Catted Downpipe
  • Milltek frontpipe back exhaust (resonated)
  • PRL Stage 1 Intake Kit (hose and drop in filter)
We have not yet upgraded the intercooler, which we expect would be quite beneficial at this point.

An unlocked FlashPro from a FK8 will lock to and program an FL5. There is no timeline for a remote jailbreak. It may not be possible.
Hey Doug, is this still accurate as of today? Got this answer but wanted to confirm with you. Thanks!

Since I live where we have both 91 and 93 octane around town. Can you tune for both or just one or the other ? Or what happens if you flash it for 91 but fill her up with 93 ? I’ve gone to gas stations that say they have 93 but don’t !
Then what happens?
Thank you

If you tune for 91 it is safe to run 91 octane or above, which mean 93 octane would be great.

@Two Step Performance That's a big improvement over the base map. Are you going to offer a purchasable tune for the FL5 similar to what you provide for the 1.5T Civics?
I do not have anything official to announce at this time but it is definitely something we are taking a look at.

Please excuse my ignorance but what if you tune for 93 but only 91 octane is available! Does that cause any kind of problems? Thank you for your reply.

Good question. If you are running a tune designed for 93 octane but are only using 91 octane fuel, pre-ignition / knock is to be expected. The ECU will attempt to retard timing to compensate for this to help protect the engine but it is still best to avoid that situation.

Anyone have this done yet and can review / comment?
I currently run the 93 base map from hondata with a RV6 catted DP / Milltek front pipe - full non res exhaust / K&N drop in filter and it feels so great... I have a P700 im paitently waiting to install once everything is finish on the hondata side. Also waiting for my PRL FMIC that i ordered, and piping to eventually come out..

The FL5 has a crazy rev hang after full throttle lift off during upshifts, sometimes the rpms even jump a bit. The FK8 did not exhibit this behavior. Are there provisions to remedy this issue with the Hondata remapping? If so, does the base map incorporate it?

It’s really bad.

Damn you don’t wait around do ya. Im thinking downpipe, intake and Hondata a year from now. Give some time to see some custom tunes.
