I had my 1st oil change done on Friday (non Honda dealer) at 4600 miles or so. I used the 0w20 Mobil 5.7 quarts etc, but a new drain plug was needed unfortunatly. The tech could not manage to save it, it was rrplaced w a "shorter" copper colored version. has this happened to other FL5 owners out there? I plan to have the new drain plug replaced at Honda on the 2nd oil change. The ires are wearing evenly all at 9's he said too.

I worded it incorrectly, my bad. It would not come off easily at the ending part of removal it sounded to me, Saving it was my wording. I would have much rather had the OE plug remian but he did manage to find a shorter copper colored one that fit perfectly.

So they stripped the bolt?

I wouldn't trust the dealer to install it correctly either. They always overtighten the drain bolt.

I replaced mine when I changed my oil the other day with a magnetic drain bolt.

I'll never trust a dealer to perform service other than a safety recall!

Also tire shops only get my wheels, no impact wrenching luggage nuts off/on with zero torque measurements.

My son had his GTI oil serviced about 1/2 of the time. The other times I was watching pieces of oil pan thread working out with the drain plug. Fortunately he sold the GTI before all the thread was totally ruined.

Go to a different dealer or do the oil changes yourself. It really doesn't get much simpler on a car than doing an oil change. If they managed to screew up the first one, lord knows what they'll screw up in the future

they usually have the least experienced techs doing oil changes, unfortunately.
