I couldn't switch drive modes while I was on the track. Went out in comfort by accident, and tried to put it in +R and it wouldn't do it.
really? thats really strange. I definitely have moved from individual to +R and vice versa while on track (basically just wanted to see how the suspension felt btw having it in comfort in individual and +R in +R).

I think they over complicated the whole thing, +R is cool that you press the button and changes everything and sutff but would been much better if +R was individual and you clicked it and did all the settings you have set (including traction control you want). Thats how the M buttons work on bmw, if traction control off in individual settings then it asks you if you meant to do that and you press button again and its there. This is great as you can just get in your car and then press it while you are sitting on the grid.

you can toggle drive modes, but can't turn off +R TC mode and definitely can't do pedal dance to fully off. for a supposed track car, it's truly annoying

You can see me try to switch it off in my video and it wouldn't do it.

Alright you pansies, drive in +R mode and TC off all the time. Problem solved.

In all seriousness, I find it annoying at every start up I have to turn off the brake assist. It’s like running through a list of checks before taking off in a plane.

i run individual and almost always do the pedal dance on every drive. +R mode is too stiff to be enjoyable, and in most cases lead to slower lap times. comfort suspension usually laps the fastest

That’s interesting. I run in +R mode all the time and never took the time to try out softer suspension and see the delta in lap times. I also don’t turn off TC since I find it that the car rotates quite well and TC to be not very intrusive.

I ran a few sessions both "comfort" suspension and +R suspension. There is a higher speed section with slight crest + bumps that was unsettling in +R so I left suspension in comfort. Had more confidence and didn't feel as edgy but I'm sure it's track specific.

Car and Driver Lightning lap and there was another Japanese test that tested all the modes and both found comfort to be the fastest

I feel the same way. It's like a pre-flight checklist.

Yes, I saw the same video a while ago. Just never really did my own testing. It’s also interesting that the +R was faster than Sport yet Comfort is fastest.

i would say sport/+R are the same. 3 hundredths of a second is pretty much noise.

+R does give you more sideways motion before TC kicks in, but it's at the price of bump/curb absorption.

next time give it a go, and see. the problematic part is that the TC in comfort suspension does get very intrusive unless you pedal dance.

Likely give it a try next year at Watkins Glen when I am more familiar with the track.

I have yet to try pedal dancing at all, but it's looking more and more like I have no choice and now I'm going to have to look like an idiot when I get in the car to hop on track.
