For those of you running 285–295 tires on the FL5, what wheel specs are you using?

Are you running a square setup (285 or 295 all around), or staggered?

Did you need wider fenders to make it work? If so, what are you running and would you recommend it?

Also, any real-world pros/cons, rubbing issues, or things you wish you knew before switching?

Appreciate any feedback. Justtrying to dial in the setup before pulling the trigger.

I bought a set of Apex V5RS in 10.5 wide +47 offset of someone who did TTs. He was running these with 285/30/18s, told me had no issues at all, no rubbing. I have taken them out on a autocross and seemed totally fine, no rubbing that I saw or heard. This guy was on coilovers, I am on H&R springs. I have camber Ball Js

I am going to 275/35/18 because I like a little more sidewall but I would be totally comfortable running 285/30/18 square, I know people that run larger but they are on stock sus

285/35 on 18x10.5 +47. No mods, works well at stock or lowered heights
This would be my preferred size and nice to know it works, too bad the RE71s don't come in that size

Would be interested in whether or not 295s are doable on stock suspension...

I picked up some 19x10.5et48, and I'm planning on 285/30R19, but would happily run 295/30R19 if I knew I wouldn't have issues.

For driving on the street, yes.

This thread was posted in the "Tracking / Autocross / HPDE" section, for which purposes PS4Ss are ill-equipped.
That's simply not true. There's plenty of posts around here showing that even Cup2 only shaves off a few seconds on a 2 minute lap vs PS4S. You would really only need something above PS4S if you are seriously racing. Casual track days and autocross PS4S is plenty.

The Cup 2 itself is a hybrid track / street tire, which is why most OE variants (including those optional on the FL5) are rated as a 240TW tire. It does not compare favorably to high-end 200 TW tires, either.

Even so, a couple seconds on a 2 minute lap is considered significant. So, this illustrates the substantial gap between the PS4S and a true 200(or sub) TW tire like the CRS, RE-71RS/Z, etc.

Additionally, the single lap time oversells the performance of the PS4S, because where they really suffer is endurance. They absolutely fall apart after a lap or two.

PS4S is MANY (MANY is significant) seconds slower than a super 200tw tire even with a novice driver. Even Cup2 is slower than a super 200 (Nankang CR-S, A052, RE71-RZ, etc) and barely on part with endurance 200 like RS4, AD09, RT660+ etc. You'd have to go up to a Cup2R for super 200 level performance. PS4S is not a good track tire. For a street tire, its great (although we prefer the V601), but it is far from the "gold standard" especially when talking about track tires. Good tires (again, not PS4S) will shave laptimes over any other mod (besides a driver mod).
