I'm trying to figure out if I actually need to remove the brake dust shield to install or can work around it. I've had a pair sitting in the box for a few months.
You don't need to remove it. Remove the 3 screws that hold it in place and rotate the dust shield to expose the lower ball joint.

Also ran across this gem when asking my Honda buddy to help find me a torque spec....
That's interesting. The FK8 manual says the lower ball joint is not a serviceable part, you have to replace the whole knuckle. For the FL5, they sell replacement lower ball joints and also published torque specs. I wonder if that notice was for the FK8...

Thanks I'll need to try that. I always lose motivation and don't dig into it enough.

Just order them in 6 months by the time they arrive you will have forgotten about it....
I'm playing with the idea of buying a set while I'm there if anything is in stock and bring them back. The boxes easily fit within my check bag allowance. 🤣

Just got back from the track!

This was my very first weekend as a NASA instructor, and I've got to say that it was an incredibly rewarding experience! On the first day I ended up with 3 more students than I was expecting. On day 2 I offered pointers to a GR Corolla driver, and got a chance to drive her car around track with her to demonstrate her car's capabilities. By her very last session she had shaved 17 seconds off of her lap times!

My assigned student was phenomenal! He had 4 track events at VIR under his belt, but wanted help on braking and a little bit of line work. He was a good listener and was able to tackle what I was throwing at him with incredible ease! I solo'd him for his very last run, and sat atop one of the higher vantage points and watched him pass cars left and right! Congratulated him when he returned to the pits, and then headed home!

Can't wait to do it again!

I've got a guy in a Stinger that asked me to come ride with him November 1st to help him with his lap times. I'm pretty excited about that, but I'm only aiming for a 4-6 second improvement for him lol.
