How long do your UOA's usually take? I'm waiting on one currently.
I've been using Blackstone Labs and their reports seem to take an excessive amount of time to come back. Usually 3-4 weeks. I've heard most other labs have a much faster turnaround time.

Gas in oil is fairly common on direct injection engines, and you'll also get slightly increased blow-by because of the turbo, which can exacerbate the effect. Longer trips and spirited driving can help reduce the fuel content in the oil. Frequent oil changes aren't a bad idea either. Manufacturers have significantly increased their oil change intervals for two reasons. 1) cost of ownership (people now-a-days seem to really care about this) 2) The oil available today is better. That being said, I still don't, and likely won't ever agree with 7,500/8,000/10,000 mile oil change intervals. In my opinion this leads you down the dark path of oil consumption for the future of the engine. I change my oil early and often.
that’s good to know honestly. I’ll never go that long for an oil change. My typical interval is 3000 miles or once a year since I don’t drive my cars that often.

this particular oil change just had a lot of firsts for me which I didn’t like. How thin the oil was and the small metallic flake was unnerving. I can’t 100% say that the flake was from this car however cause I’ve done several cars in this oil drain pan. I was paying attention to the oil as it drained and had a light right on it and didn’t see the flake as it was coming out. I did see flake in the oil filter though when I dumped some oil out. Hopefully it’s just the engine still breaking in and not a sign of something more serious

Blackstone labs uses the flashpoint to determine fuel dilution in the sample. From what I understand, Gas Chromatography is a much more accurate test for determining fuel dilution. So if you suspect that you may have excessive fuel in your oil a lab that uses GC to determine fuel contamination may be a better choice. Just FYI ....

Just FYI. Amsoil Signature is NOT API certified. API Certification is one of the few requirements in the owners manual for oil. If you ever have to use the warranty on the engine and tell them you used Amsoil Signature, they can deny warranty work because you did not follow Honda recommendations and utilize an API Certified oil. Yes, I know it’s supposed to be a good oil, but it doesn’t have the certification so Honda could deny any warranty work.

I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum which is a solid oil that I can buy at my local auto parts store and is API certified.
I did read about that. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this oil though and have used it before in my S2000 without issue. My car has the ecu unlocked and tuned through Hondata so I’m pretty sure I voided the fuck out of my warranty already šŸ˜‚ā€¦ I would never take my car back to Honda anyway. The dealers around me have already proven they can’t be trusted as I’ve had several issues with previous cars when I brought it to them.

prior to the this type R, I had an accord touring I brought to them for an oil change and tire rotation. They spilled oil all over the engine cover and marked up all 4 wheels with their air impact gun when putting the lug nuts back on. I don’t trust them for shit working on this car.

if worst case scenario ever happened and I blew this motor, I would do everything I could myself and swap a new motor in.. then take it to a reputable aftermarket shop for the things I couldn’t do

Car will be fine man, don’t stress about it. Just change the oil and be happy.

Appreciate it! I’m sure I’m being overly paranoid!

I had a similar experience on my second change at like 6k miles. It's stressful for sure. Not much flake on the 3rd. Hoping it's better when I do it again in the spring

good to see I’m not the only one at least lol definitely unsettling to see but the car drives fine so chalking it up to a new motor still breaking in and I’ll see how it is at my 9k mile oil change

As stated above, Blackstone does not use GC so if fuel dilution is a concern, which for OP it seems to be, then I'd recommend using NAPA, Polaris or Amsoil. I used Amsoil and got my results in a week.

My oil typically turns dark after 3-5k miles, but that doesn't provide much insight into its actual condition. I suggest sending a sample to a company that performs oil analysis for a more accurate assessment. I came across a post on a different forum where someone used Mobil 1 synthetic for 10k miles, then had it analyzed. The results showed that the oil was still in good condition and could be used for additional mileage.

don't worry. some of the best oils don't have API certifications. just doesn't make financial sense for small batch oil blenders.

Here's ones I just got done. The car had just under 12000kms and it was it's third oil change...2500, 7000 and about 12000...Honda oil and filters...
this is the Cdn lab that amsoil uses and the report came back a couple of days after I mailed the sample...
I'm not an oil geek so I'd appreciate any feedback

I check my oil monthly and use a white paper towel. Fold the towel over the orange area, press the towel against the oil, towards the edge, and fold it back with the dipstick still on the bottom of the towel. You can tell by the towel if you are low on oil or have an oil dilution problem. I have not had either on the 2024 Touring.

My drives are longer, while 80% of them are at least 30 minutes. Short drives in cold weather can cause issues.
