Yeah but its a sandwich plate thermostat. They open with oil temp not water temp. Most aftermarket oil sandwich plates eliminate the oem type water/oil cooler.
The K20C1 doesn't have an oil/water heat exchanger/sandwhich plate like the K series of old.

I wrote an open source converter from FK8 logR databases to csv. Maybe someone could update that for the FL5. Unfortunately our LogR also doesn't log any oil related readings.

Not unpopular at all - this is a common opinion on civicx. Many turned to tube&fins ICs or even returned to stock, since HPD's FK8 TC race car still uses the OEM IC.
That's cool - did this enable you to use a desktop app to read the logs?

ah got you! Have not seen the underside of the car yet since my last oil change was done when intercooler was installed and I was not there.

Sorry, let me rephrase that. The OEM oil to coolant heat exchanger is a box below the water pump. It stays there. Oil cooler kits for the CTR add a sandwich plate at the oil filter to have the oil pass through an oil to air core.

Re the thermostat, you are right. I just wanted to mention that this is a GOOD kit because of the thermostat - not all kits have them.

Yeah now I understand, I have not seen the engine underneath yet because of time constraints. Would be cool to be able to delete that. That way there would be no transfer of heat between them. It would affect cold start heating of the oil but would be cool to compare if there are any differences.

This is the OEM cooler: https://www.ebay.com/itm/364473283710

Not really easy to delete it. You'd need to machine a flange just like that.

Yeah I figured it being a box it would be more of a challenge. I did the oil cooler delete on my SRT4 I just replaced it with a machined part. Works like a charm and no chance of it leaking oil into the coolant tract.

It just occurred to me ask you, when you installed the Oil cooler did it eliminate the water cooler for the engine oil?
Nope. It's a sandwich plate that screws on to the oil filter housing.

Well shit.

I know I don't hang out on this forum as much as the Integra forum, but what I've gathered from the comments is people are indeed running into overheating issues on track in stock FL5s? Kind of hoping this issue has more to do with the aftermarket intercooler.

It is good to see how capable these cars are but I agree, it has to be able to stand up to be driven at 10/10ths for longer than 10 mins at a time...

thanks for sharing your experience it's very valuable, love your channel...i was just wondering does higher water temp immediately means higher oil temps, may be your oil temps were good with the HEL oil cooler, but water temps is what got really high, at least in your case

I'm thinking the same. I changed the oil yesterday and the oil came out clean and did not smell burnt. Also checked the filter. No metal flakes.

I'm typical running 8/10 to 10/10. Totally agree. The car should be able to keep its composure for a 20 minute session.

It will happen even on a stock car sadly. It produces too much heat.

I think the turbo is a huge contributor. Larger turbo and a less restrictive exhaust would likely completely eliminate the issue.

yes I agree! I will report back if I ever get my downpipe it has been on backorder forever and after I install all of the heat insulation. Bigger turbo is ways away.
