Why not just get a oil temp gage instead of going by the water temp. I don't think it's that accurate anyway lol
I plan on getting one. I don't want to start buying a bunch of parts when I haven't even had my first track day and since Im new to this. I'd rather buy parts piece mail since I really dont know what Im doing.

The water temp is accurate but yeah the oil temp in my experience isn't very accurate

Tezza says the same thing about his car, it's indeed curious. What water temps are you seeing?
Max was 235.4 F, but didn't stay there for long in 92F ambient.

That was directly from ODB and not LogR or dash

When my IAT's shot up the car pulled out all of the timing, and was basically just relying on boost. A tune adjustment solved this problem. It was incredibly easy for me to heat soak the factory intercooler. The engine was picking up knock on cylinder 1 and 3 when the happened and did it's best to protect itself.

IIRC you have a tune, right? At 92F ambient that ECT1 definitely isn't that high after 6 hotlaps (I assume). Indeed that might be good enough for time attack.

My threshold to start a cooldown lap is 110 C/230F coolant as I consider the car has overheated by then. Max power is long gone and another 5C/10F I'm risking a blown head gasket.

Exactly. The stock tune will retard ignition timing when IAT1 goes past 30 C/86 F, which happens after only a few seconds at wot.

Yep, I have a tune. The other thing too, are the coolant temps displayed on the dash accurate?

In my VW GTI and Golf R, it almost always showed the same number on the dash once warm, even though the actual coolant temps could have been 20-30F higher. once the temps were in an acceptable range, they didn't want consumers thinking it was overheating.

The coolant temps should be accurate. They are reading from a physical sensor that's in the head. When I look at numbers on Hondata on my phone to compare, the dash and Hondata are exactly the same.

Our dash shows the correct sensor reading. I have a P3 gauge to monitor Oil temp (sensor at the drain bolt), ECT1, ECT2, IAT1, IAT2 (from OBD). I can only see one number at a time, so I have to cycle between them. And ECT1 always matches with LogR.

Now, to say it's accurate we'd need to have more information about the sensor. I assume it is good enough.

I'm wondering if you'd be willing to share your cooling modifications?
The enhanced cooling comes from the dual 25-row oil coolers, custom airflow setup, and aftermarket vents (fender, hood, and front bumper). A single 25-row oil cooler previously lowered temperatures by about -30 to -40Ā°F, but with the dual coolers and extra venting, Iā€™m now seeing drops of -80 to -90Ā°F. Before, with just one cooler, the car couldnā€™t handle a full track session in 85Ā°F heatā€”I could complete 5-6 laps, but when a pro driver pushed it, the car overheated after just two laps (one warm-up and one full-out lap). Additionally, I have to shift earlier, below 6,500 RPM, to reduce engine load and prevent overheating.

Thanks for the info. Any chance you'd be willing to share pictures on here of these mods and all the various vents?

I'm a bit too lazy to jack up the car, remove all the screws holding the front bumper, and take some photos. Maybe next time when I have the front splitter installed and more time.

No problem, I was hoping you might have some pictures on your phone already

Appreciate the hate. YouTube videos just arenā€™t worth the time for me. I make more focusing on other things than editing content. My channel is purely for fun and doesnā€™t cover any bills. My other investments earn more while I sit back. I donā€™t have anything to prove, so feel free to believe what you like and mod your car however you want.

I feel the same as you when it comes to YouTube. I basically just post my best laps and nothing else cause it's too much of a pain.
