There is an interesting claim that DE5 has way less issues with overheating on track. Baffles me what Acura could have done different, cooling isn't an easy/cheap fix.
Maybe those DE5 don't show problems because people hasn't started to throw aftermarket stuff to them :)

Joking aside, what baffles me is the lack of any real test data from aftermarket vendors regarding how their products affect airflow through the car stacked coolers.
Any of these performance shops can stretch some five meters of air tubing from the front bumper to a differential pressure gauge inside the cabin, do runs at 100 and 200 km/h and measure how much their front mounted bigger coolers block airflow to the rear unit.

Because they’re not going to like the results.

I’m patiently waiting for HKS and PWR to release their tube and fin style intercoolers, which should not suffer the same tradeoffs as, for example, the PRL.

Yep. It's got em'!
It would be cool to see how accurate the guesstimate oil temp is on the LogR. Although once you add the aftermarket cooler the math that the car does to calculate the temp is probably gonna be way off. I toyed with the idea of putting one of the temp sensors in the drain plug location to compare to the LogR temp but my laziness took over lol.

Then we have to motivate you for science.šŸ˜‚

P3 will bring a solution to market in the next 30-60 days or so. If you're unfamiliar with P3, they manufacture custom, integrated gauge solutions. In the interest of full disclosure, I have no firsthand experience with their products; however, I would investigate this further if I needed a gauge for this car. Anyhow, the FL5 gauge that will be available soon will be located in the defrost vent to the left of the steering wheel (see picture). My understanding is it will not take up all of the vent space. Also, here's the link to the gauge solution they have available for the 10th-generation Civic.

The P3 gauge will be a good option if they offer the version for external sensors. The OBD2 version will just give the estimated values too. Hopefully they offer both for the FL5.

I would bet it will still be accurate with a cooler. They probably use a function that takes oil pressure and RPM as input, so an oil cooler will make the oil more viscous, and that will result in a cooler temperature calculation.

An analog version will be offered with two inputs. You will have the option to run a sensor for oil tempurature if you wish.

Yeah if they keep those 5v inputs it will be a clean way to run it with an almost oem look.

Just a side update. My PWR track spec intercooler has arrived. I plan to install it this weekend. Instead of straight coolant I'll be running a bottle of water wetter, 1 gallon of distilled water, and the remainder will be topped off with Honda coolant.

Radiator, right?

hmmm I didn’t think about it like that. Certainly a possibility. All the more reason why it would be cool to get a real sensor on one and check the accuracy. A lot of ppl run different weight oil for track days so if it’s calibrated for 0-20 then something thicker might make itā€˜s guess less accurate.

Is the OEM bypass valve an issue on OEM turbos but? Even when running higher boost? Maybe @keller can weigh in on this as he's quite familiar with the FK8 scene?
I'm not convinced we've been given the complete story on what happened on Gridzilla's car
There are very few cases of OEM bypass valves failing that I know of, and people have been running higher boost since a tuning solution first came to market. The R660 turbo used to require OEM bypass valves and wastegate actuators. Now they are selling a piston bpv that comes with their kit. The MHI upgrade turbo comes with a new bpv and wastegate actuator, but probably the exact same parts that come with the car.

I believe gridzilla confirmed they had stripped threads on the AN fittings. RV6 later advised people to not overtighten those fittings. I stopped following that drama after that, so I don't know what else they found out.

Also, I'm keen to know if the oil temp sensor from the JDM (and other markets) is plug and play for the USDM vehicles. This is assuming it's a proper oil temp sensor. Anyone know if this is possible?
JDM doesn't have that sensor, it seems it only comes installed on EU cars. It's a proper oil temp/level sensor, but our car uses a different harness that lacks the required connection. From what I can tell, the EUDM Type R only cares about the oil level readings; the oil temp reported by LogR is still calculated.

On my DSG Golf R with tune and downpipe, I upgraded the the Radiator, and 2 aux radiators (the manual one's only have one) and it worked great in hot temps after the upgrades.
I have considered installing Golf OEM aux radiators on the fk8 side vents. Are there aftermarket upgrades for these?
