I use Motul 300V 5W40 for hot and humid Asia weather here. 5W30 would break down to 20s easily and often times all the cars we have here that use 5W30 would see oil consumption. My 9y0 Cayenne would consume oil all the way from max to min within 12 months period. Those b58 engines with 5w30 oil that bmw put in would also slowly consumes oil as you whack the car hard.

I’d prefer to run thinner oil for modern engines but feel lazy to constantly have to monitor and check oil level

It would be great to get back an oil report from everyone.

Here is the reality with Bearing Clearances - .002-.003 at different temperatures. If you're going too thick, you're not circulating oil well enough on startup to 160F. I assume this is why the 25 hour Spoon race car is running - RAVENOL REP Racing Extra Performance 5W-30

What was their ambient? Our climate here is like 36C 97F on a normal afternoon. Oil temp can go really high if not managed properly

I think we need engine oil lab reports from everyone. This is the main issue with this Oil discussion forum. Everyone is making educated guesses, including me.

Next week I will have the lap reports for the Honda Factory Oil, then will install factory Honda 0W-20 and run 2-3 more track days and look at the results again and build a base line from their.

@kin0kin What color is your Motul engine oil after ~2500 miles? Can you take a picture from your dip stick?

There's so many oil threads so im going to just tack this questions on here vs start a new one -

What oil pressure are you all getting at idle?

Ive been doing 5W-30 for a bit and always am at 20PSI at idle. SOMETIMES it will be 19.
But recently i went back to a 0W-20 and oil pressure at idle will now drop to 17 PSI.

I dont think this is an issue (please let me know if im wrong), but it got me thinking about what others are seeing. Does anyone strive for a certain PSI and X RPM range? Or is no one thinking about this as much as i am?

This is what my stock honda oil looks like after 4930 miles. First oil change. No tracking of the vehicle just normal driving minus a couple of times where I was not driving normal for a minute or four possibly lol. I'm going to send it to blackstone.

Excellent - I’m getting my oil changed at honda tomorrow - will also send it to blackstone - requesting honda ultimate full synthetic 0w-20

Curious what oil did you change fill with?

Well, looks like full synthetic.

Sent my oil into Blackstone and Virgin sample of Honda 0w-20
The dealer said to expect the first factory fill with engine break in to be dirty, but let's see.
Then will run 2-3 more track days on Honda 0w-20 and then we should have a good base line.

That black one is definitely what mine looked like at 4930 miles. I'll send mine in again at 5k~ with the new fill of Honda full synthetic and see what it looks like when I pull it out. I feel like as scary as it might look, that 5k miles is the safe spot honestly for normal drivers like me no tracking the car involved. I just, would not advise pushing the oil to 10k miles if you care about the car.

Just got my UOA. Here it is.

So your viscosity was dropping below what it should be. I received my kit from them and will be sending it in today. See what mine looks like. I'll post the results once I receive them.

Your all set - your engine will go 200-300k miles no problem - easy

Changing frequency is the most important

The Honda Oil seems to be very good, it's thicker at 10.29 CSt than a Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 and similar to the 5w-30 and thicker than a Amsoil Signature Series 0w-20 cSt -- which is a PAO/Ester based high end oil - very good quality according to these lab reports.

The data below is from - https://www.speediagnostix.com/ - which is supposedly the best in the business - I almost can't believe it is this good virgin oil and very curious what my Blackstone reports will show.

I will give you my dealer price for amsoil if you want to test the 5w-30 signature series. Just PM me if you want to go through with it.

You also did some heavy engine mods last time I saw as well - what exact mods did you have done?
4 piston stage 1 engine, 27won Kuro, PRP intake, XDI pump w/1400cc injectors, and a tune.
