Looking forward to my 2nd outing to Homestead Feb 28th, should be a good time. This summer I had a chance to visit the Nurburgring which was amazing and a totally different experience compared to a track like Homestead. I had a blast there but am also looking forward to a track that I can push close to 10/10s without too much worry.

May or may not be the right place to ask, but what wheel and tire size does everyone recommend for the FL5 for track use. Occasional track use, not like full time track car. I have a good amount of experience with track days with my ND Miata and 8th gen civic Si that I used to own, but I am fairly new to the FL5. I know some of the hard core guys are running 11” wide wheels but I dont need to be doing all that. Thanks in advance.

18x9.5's are fine, and cost efficient, and you'd run 275/35/18's on that rim size.

Thanks for the fast response, is 19 not recommended? My current winter setup is 18, and I have to say I like how 19s look better.

would there be a noticeable advantage to going 10” wide (prob as wide as I would go).

I'm running 18x11's, but it decreases your tire options. I personally don't like to track on 19's because there isn't much sidewall to the tire, and curbing rims becomes easier. I curbed up one of my factory 19's on the inside edge on my very first track outing with the car. Not to say that it couldn't happen on the 18's, but you get just a little more tire to help mitigate that. Car performs really well on the 275's, and I like how it performs on my 295's as well, but from a consumables standpoint the 275's are the cheaper option.

Do you feel the character of the car changes on track with the wider tires on 18x11 vs 18x9.5? What size are you running on the 18x11.

No, the character feels the same. I'm running 295/30/18's.

Two-fold question,

1. Do you think the extra sidewall on 18s and the flexing of the tire carcass is a trade off to the 19s?
2. Couldnt you do a wider tire on the 19s to help with the edges?

Going wider isn't really helping with the curbing issue. IMSA curbs are pretty tall. I think most 200TW racing tires have sturdy enough sidewalls that the flex won't really matter.

Hi all,

After 6 track weekends last year I noticed that the dust boots on my front OEM Brembos were destroyed, so in December I did a full caliper rebuild and changed seals and dust boots (used the ones from Girodisc). I only started tracking last year, and I only checked the boots later in the season, so I don't know how many weekends the original boots lasted.

Took the car out to the track for the first time this year and for the first time with the new boots. Did 2 days, 3 x 25 minutes sessions each day. When I inspected the brakes the following week, I noticed the boots were already starting to break. They got cooked and cracked with just one track weekend! I was on new Paragon rotors, with new EBC SR-11 pads and new SRF fluid.

Curious to know if anybody has experienced something similar? How many track days are the boots expected to last? Worried that it might be a sign of brakes overheating due to either other faulty components or bad braking technique.

Thanks!

Had a track day at Hedge Hollow just south of Kanas City over the weekend with HOD. Installed Paragon R7 pads on the front a few days before the event and went through Paragon's bed in procedure twice but, still ended up with pretty bad uneven pad deposits causing a rough brake peddle. Finished the day without issue as stopping power still was very good.

What the best way to clean up the rotors? Best options other than getting them turned.
