Hello everyone! Apologies for the long post, but I'm hoping to get some help with diagnosing a strange issue I had on track recently with my 2023 Civic Type R. I've done 4 HPDE weekends in the past year with the car, and didn't have any problems until the most recent event a couple weeks ago. The car has ~40,000 mostly freeway miles on it, and is not modified beyond brake pads, an AWE Touring exhaust, PRL rear motor mount, and the ITS damper module. Completely stock engine with no tune and OE Michelin PS4S tires.

During the last session on Saturday, the car went into limp mode as I was accelerating at WOT onto a straight at ~6500 rpm in third gear. I pulled into the paddock and read the car's codes. There were a handful of codes, but I think the primary culprit was P0087: fuel rail pressure too low. I cleared the codes and the car was back to normal. I assumed this was caused by fuel starvation, even though I came off track with half a tank of fuel remaining.

On Sunday I made sure to refuel after every session to eliminate the potential of fuel starvation. The car was running fine until the third session when it entered limp mode at the exact same point on track as the day before. I scanned the codes and found they were also the same as Saturday, including P0087. I cleared the codes and the car was fine for the fourth and final session of the day.

My initial troubleshooting thoughts/efforts have not produced any explanations or results. I have driven the car on the street while monitoring the requested vs. measured fuel pressures and did not find anything out of the ordinary. I did run the fuel tank down to 1/10 bars on the fuel gauge getting to the gas station closest to the track on Saturday morning, so maybe I ingested debris/sediment into the fuel filter/pump/lines? But if that was the case, I don't know why the issue would only present itself at this particular point on track toward the end of the day. It would seem to be a clue that this happened twice at the same point on track, but there are other places where I was accelerating at WOT at the top of third gear and never had the problem.

I have linked below a video I put together after the weekend. The link is timestamped to the two limp mode instances, and you can rewind to the start of the video for my fastest lap to get a feel for the rest of the track.

I would appreciate any and all input you may have! Thanks!

I had the same issue at MSRH on Diamond's Edge CW. It's likely fuel starvation. I started topping off after every session, and the code stopped appearing.

Have you had starvation at any other tracks, or is there just something special about CW Diamond's Edge?

Yup. It has happened to me on two other tracks - Harris Hill & COTA. Same sections at each one.

It’s pretty common. It’s fuel starvation, I’ve had it happen at every track I’ve been to. Just can’t go out with less than a quarter of a tank.

I think last year at VIR one of the guys had his HPFP leave the chat and somehow @PointByPatrol had one at home so they drove to his house to get it and was installed right there at VIR lol

Hope this story does not repeat itself again though

Tracked the FL5 for the first time. Mods are a Sprint filter, base map from Jester, pads and fluids. Otherwise stock, including PS4S.

After a couple sessions getting used to the car, it was easy to overheat. Could do 3-4 laps at pace and then would hit 230-235 coolant temps. Booo….guess I need to start looking at radiator options.

I struggled with the same thing (P0087 code) at NCM when I was there last month. I was filling the car up after each session but still had an issue on straights right after technical sections.

The common thing between the sections was me short shifting to 4th to go flat early and then the car would go into limp mode on the straight as I hit higher RPM. Looking at the data the car was overboosting to 27psi right before the CEL came on, so my theory was that the code around insufficient fuel pressure was related to some safeguards for the higher level of boost vs actual fuel starve.

Once I cleared the code and stopped short shifting I didn't have another issue. I've done 3 days on track at different places since and not had the issue reappear.

Not sure if it's 100% what I thought but at Ozarks last weekend which has a lot more elevation change than any other track I've been to (and lots of WOT time) I was able to get 2 sessions on a tank with zero fuel starve at a solid pace.

Tried some EBC SR-11 pads over the weekend, and wasn't happy with the brake modulation. Anybody else experience the same?

I've ran PMU 999, Paragon R5, Carbotech XP12, Endless ME20, & MX72+ in the past for reference.

SR11's aren't great. I've known of 3 cars know where they induce crazy vibrations when you aren't even touching the brakes, and they don't modulate...they're just an on/off switch.

I found them to be OK, but definitely not good. Worse than Project Mu Club Racers, and far worse than G-Locs. G-Locs/Carbotech are famous for their modulation though.

I like the SR11 but they are not modulators lol, they bite hard which is great but they hardly modulate. Price is good and last a long time, I think gotta pay to play aka ferodo or CSG but double the price
